What Are The Most Successful Marketing Ideas For Small Business?

By Sam Reilly

Little businesses are going under by the dozen daily in this tough economy, but there are several free or lower cost promoting ideas for small business. Tiny shops may continue to fail as outlets like Walmart and Target continue to fight it out for market domination by offering ridiculously low prices on everything from clothing to electronics to food. When small businesses fall victim to this insurmountable competition, folk lose their livelihoods and communities lose precious resources.

Therefore how is a small business to stay floating in these difficult times?

If you are a bricks and mortar business, you've got a battle on your hands, especially if you offer anything that the enormous chains offer. You have got to become unique, a pro in what you do, and offer the best buyer service possible , then market that fact.

Those are three of the things these large box stores do not offer : uniqueness, experience and consumer service. Personally I mostly try and buy at small local businesses, because they are the spine of a community and they are often more well informed and useful than large stores, where you are lucky if you can get any help at all!

Its outstanding how many small businesses do not feel the need to have a website. They most likely don't know that Google really loves small business and will always pull a small business to the head of a search page, simply by someone putting in the name of a town and whatever they are on the lookout for. This is a great advantage to a business owner. There are always local directories, for instance through the local Chamber of Commerce, where you can list your website, regularly for a small charge or free.

Many small business owners are also convinced that starting and maintaining a website will cost them a lot of money and is tough. Offering cheap web site construction and upkeep for small local businesses has changed into a home-run industry in itself.

Small local businesses must always have a site offering a short description of what they offer, what they are skilled in doing, a map to where they are found, opening hours and contact numbers and an e-mail address, any successful use of income-producing Google Adwords and affiliate advertising on those sites, can become a very nice added bonus. By offering an opt-in box, a small business website owner can make a list, and then offer rebates and specials to those customers by initiating a promotional program.

Net businesses have a much tougher task on their hands. They have much larger competition and must employ SEO and a plethora of other selling methods, particularly to make a list of subscribers. An internet site's recognition reflects a number of things : the age of the site, the consistency with which it is updated, the value of its content and the relevancy of its content and the number of backlinks it has . Just like a small high street business, an internet site should offer useful info, great customer service and brand itself as being unique. It's about attraction selling.
