How To Become A Successful Pallet Manufacturer

By Darcy Deleo

Contrary to popular belief, to be a pallet manufacturer is simple and easy. For one, the project only requires two or three licenses and registrations to comply with. It also uses simple and easily available equipment to start the assembly business going. Another advantage is the smaller space requirement compared to those of other production companies.

Some of the companies that are already established in this line of business use the lean method of manufacturing. This means that these companies does not maintain any inventory of their products. Instead, they produce pallets on demand.

Before starting, look for a building in a location already classified for businesses. If the location is in a residential area, the zoning classification has to be changed before a license to operate is issued. This may take awhile and can result in drawbacks for the company. Choose a building that has enough area to construct the products and store the products before it is delivered or picked up by customers.

Obtain a license to operate the business from the state office. Include in your list of requirements the Federal ID Number that can be secured for free from the IRS website. This ID number is your insurance that the IRS will not be bothering your company soon. You also have to apply for a stamp used for taxes issued by the state. You can use this stamp as proof of legality of your establishment. The stamp can cost ten dollars. Other fees differ in every locality.

Inside the manufacturing area, make a plan of all the positions of each step of the assembly line. Make careful arrangements to promote a smooth transition of products along the line. The first table should be allocated for measurement of the boards. To make the process faster, length marks should be made on the table top.

The table saw should be placed next. In this step, the boards are positioned so it can be cut easily by the saw. Care should be observed when using the electric saw to prevent any accidents from happening. Enough space should be provided for this step to make room for boards and the cuttings.

The cut boards are then assembled on the next table. This is the location of the nail gun should be positioned. Once the assembly is complete, the finished pallets are temporarily stored in the warehouse ready for pick up or delivery.

A single person can run the manufacturing business well. All it takes is determination and hard work. On an average, 16 pallets can be completely assemble by a single worker each day. This number can be increased four times if there is an assigned pallet manufacturer for each step of the process.
