Emissions Monitoring Is Mandatory And Requires Manufacturers To Follow Certain Guidelines

By Ruth R. Allisone

There are laws made through the Clean Air Bill that factories with high emissions have to follow, but emissions monitoring can be used in homes and vehicles as well as businesses to make sure that healthy levels of air quality are met. The only way that researchers can make necessary changes, they need that critical data and a lot of it to compare; they need to know how much is being released to the outside as well as the inside. It is also a method for data to be collected from these places to ensure that they are staying under the guidelines so that no toxins go into the air that we breathe.

To keep better account of all chemical levels in a plant they are now using machines to do it; they can control levels of: CO2 (carbon dioxide), NO (nitrogen oxide), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), SO2 (sulphur dioxide), and PM (particle matter). To show how much of a given pollutant is being added to the air and how hazardous it may be, there are many ways for workers, plant owners and researchers to test the air with emissions monitoring systems. For accurate records, all dangerous and harmful chemicals need to be under close analysis.

Any type of monitoring systems that are used for factories should be able to test the filters, sample the lines which are called umbilical lines, the total gas systems and do the testing all around the parameter of the building, which known as gas analysis. This CEMS will keep very accurate data on all of your required to be monitored emissions so that proper feedback can be given to the owners of these plants so that if changes need to be made they can do so to keep in compliance with the laws for that area, or the federal and state government.

Some companies require something called an infrared gas analyzer; this type of monitoring system can withstand heat such as with a kiln. You will not have to worry about losing important data when you have this type of monitoring system. The gases inside of these plants, if built up could become extremely dangerous. Just like the monitoring of the outside of the plants, you need to be aware of amounts of pollutants on the inside as well; air levels should be tested on a daily basis to make sure that the workers' air is safe to breathe.

Having a large amount of these chemicals go through our air could potentially cause harm to many people and the environment. Meaning that not only humans could be affected but also animals, the ozone and plant life could be harmed. That is why it is very important that you have continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) in your factory to get accurate counts on the quality of air. Make smart choices because they could save many lives.
